# Security and Workplace Conduct

## Background checks and security policy

All Arbor team members are expected to reflect the highest levels of professionalism and honesty, as you are entrusted with our residents' well-being and have access to Community and individual's property and confidential information. Team members may, at any time, at The Arbor Company's request, be subjected to extensive background checks, drug and alcohol tests, criminal investigations, questioning and searches. Applicants who falsify their job applications, or team members who furnish misleading information, are subject to immediate termination of employment at the time the misrepresentation is uncovered.

## Drugs and alcohol

As part of your pre-employment screening, you completed and passed a drug test. We took this step in order to make sure that our team member is able to provide great resident care as safely as possible. In order to keep our Communities safe, we reserve the right to conduct random drug screenings at any time. Refusing to participate in a drug test is grounds for termination of employment.

Any team member who uses or sells alcohol, prescription drugs without a prescription for those drugs or controlled substances on Community property is subject to immediate termination from employment. Coming to work or remaining at work under the influence of alcohol, drugs or controlled substances is grounds for immediate termination from employment.

If we suspect that any team member is unable to properly perform his or her job duties due to use or misuse of drugs or alcohol, or is under the influence of a mind-altering substance, we may conduct an investigation. If you are taking a prescribed medication which may affect your job performance, please let us know. We may need to send you home until your drug therapy is completed.

You should notify your supervisor immediately if you suspect that a co-worker is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or has violated the provisions of this policy regarding the sale, use or possession of drugs and/or alcohol.

## Theft

The Arbor Company's property is a valuable asset, costly to replace. All team members must protect it from theft, loss and damage. Arbor property includes knowledge and information as well as physical goods. Computers, files, documents, copiers and supplies are for Arbor business only and are not to be used for personal matters.

None of the above items are to be removed from the Community for other than Arbor business. If it is necessary to use any of these items outside the Community, team members must get written permission from their supervisor and be responsible for the item's safekeeping and return. Any team member who violates this policy is subject to discipline, up to and including immediate dismissal from employment.

## Inspection and search

The Arbor Company provides offices, desks, lockers, computers and other property to team members for their use while employed at the Community. These items are Community property, and security or privacy cannot be assured. The Community discourages the storage of valuables, perishables and other personal items in them. Additionally, The Arbor Company reserves the right to open and inspect any locker, desk, computer, files, cabinet or other property and its contents, at any time, with or without reason, notice or consent. The Company reserves the right to search Community, personal property and work areas at any time in order to investigate theft or other violations of Company policy and preserve the integrity of the workplace.

## Gossip

The Arbor Company recognizes that gossip (e.g., chatty talk, spreading rumors or reports of an intimate nature) can be extremely detrimental to the workplace. It can damage reputations, hurt morale and decrease productivity. Therefore, team members should not engage in the spreading of gossip that involves resident information, sensitive subjects, or harms a co-worker, supervisor, resident or family member. This No Gossip policy is intended to alert Community Team Members to the need for careful and respectful use of language at the workplace, and is not intended to interfere with team members' legally protected rights to discuss terms and conditions of employment and working conditions or to interfere with any team member's exercise of any legal rights, including Section 7 rights under the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA).

## Violence in the workplace

The safety and security of Arbor Company Team Members, residents and their families, and the general public are of vital importance. Therefore, acts or threats of violence made by a team member against another person's life, health, well-being, family or property will not be tolerated. Team members who are guilty of acts or threats of violence will be subject to discipline, up to and including immediate termination of employment.

It is a requirement that team members immediately report any incident of workplace violence, any behavior that compromises the Community's ability to maintain a safe work environment, or a perceived threat to themselves, residents or another team member which may occur on Community property. All reports will be investigated immediately and kept confidential consistent with conducting a thorough investigation.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.arborconnect.com/understanding-expectations/security-and-conduct.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
